Sat. 26th Oct. Wadworth Southern Counties South of South West Div. Devizes RFC 10 Frome RFC 5
Frome RFC travelled to Devizes RFC expecting a difficult game against the side luring just below them in third.
This proved the case as both sides looked to establish the ascendancy; however the first points of the game came from a penalty for the home side after 30 mins. Frome struck back almost immediately when after a poor kick out of defence replacement Ali Frost broke down the wing to score in the corner and give Frome a slender 5-3 lead at half time.
The second half started in a similar vein, with both sides striving to get on top in the poor conditions.
There was a break in play 10 mins into the half as Devizes attacked wide. A last-ditch effort from the covering Frome defence saw a tackle high on the opposition 13 and a subsequent serious leg injury which saw a long break in play.
When the game was restarted, Devizes were awarded a penalty try and the Frome player was red carded. Despite being down to 14 men for the remaining 30 mins, the Frome defence held firm and the score ended 10-5 to the homeside. The players and staff at Frome RFC would like to wish a speedy and healthy recovery to the Devizes player who sustained the serious leg injury in today’s fixture.
The Frome men return to league action on Saturday November 9th when they welcome Yeovil RFC to ‘The Lane’.
