AFTER the success of last year’s inaugural event, Frome Half Marathon is returning this year and organisers are urging runners to sign up quickly to avoid missing out.
Frome Running Club and the Rotary Club of Frome are getting geared up for the event on Sunday 21st July.
In addition to the half marathon, there will also be 10k and 5k races.
Organisers say, “The feedback from all the competitors last year was that it was better organised than some of the bigger and more experienced events around the UK, which was music to our ears!
“It certainly put Frome on the map, and although there were some issues with local residents and closed roads on the day, that has been resolved for this year, and Frome will hopefully host a competitive field of 1,400 runners.
“We have already planned a slightly different route and there will be plenty of notice to residents that may find their roads blocked for a short time on the day.
“The course is still very challenging, and that was what the runners liked about it last year.
“Visit the website for more information, and do not delay to register as the event is rapidly filling up and we can only register for 1,400.
The event will raise money for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, and to help develop athletic and sporting facilities for Frome.
The organisers need 150 people aged over 18 to act as road marshals. If you are able to help please contact Dot Cretney on 01373 463904.
Special Frome Half Marathon T-shirts can be purchased on the day or when you register on the website, www.fromehalf marathon.co.uk
The T-shirts are lightweight and perfect for keeping runners cool, while the women’s T-shirts are designed and tailored for style.
