The Mayor’s Charity Bash in April raised over £3,000 for local charities, Fair Frome, Edventure and the Pod Youth Club each receiving £1,000 enabling them to continue to deliver vital services for Frome residents.
Mayor Peter Macfadyen has worked hard throughout his year in office to support and promote the work of voluntary organisations in Frome, encouraging many of them to create a chain to represent their work.
An exhibition of the mayor’s chains is currently in the Black Swan Arts Round Tower in Frome for all to view, along with more information about many of the organisations in Frome supporting local people, until Saturday 30th May.
Fair Frome chair Bob Ashford said, “We would like to thank the mayor and the town council for their support throughout the year.
“In just over a year Fair Frome has created a Food Bank, Community Dining, Kitchen and Washing Pack schemes as well as running numerous other events in the town, designed to meet the needs of those who are struggling financially.
“We have also created a strong team of over 30 volunteers who, along with the Fair Frome trustees, regularly roll their sleeves up and ensure everything runs smoothly.
“Without the support from the mayor, the town council and other sponsors and supporters, none of this would have been possible. This latest donation will ensure we can continue our work to make Frome a fairer town.”
Recognising that the voluntary sector plays a key role in delivering local services, Frome Town Council will, in the coming year, continue to increase their support for local organisations through their own grants programme, specialist fundraising advice and support, and through a range of projects and initiatives delivered by the council’s community projects officers.
Councillor Peter Macfadyen, Mayor of Frome said, “We are proud of what we and our local groups have achieved in the last few years, and Fair Frome is a great example of localism at its best, but we are committed to continuing to identify the gaps in services for Frome residents.
“We want to take a strategic approach to supporting local groups, so that services are joined up and delivering the things that local people want and need. It is through talking and listening to the voluntary sector and local people that we can do this.”
One of the first opportunities to meet many of your new town councillors, all volunteers themselves, will be during National Volunteers Week where Frome Town Council is hosting a week of events and workshops for local volunteers and to celebrate the incredible work that they do in the town.
