Frome Diamonds 37 Wessex Sabres 18
THE Frome Diamonds put in a solid performance to overhaul Wessex in challenging weather following the Christmas break.
The team started well and keeping the passes short was key to the performance as the wind was blustery. Captain Meg Young led from the front and with Treya Creffield putting in a strong showing, the centre court dominated, resulting in good shot selection for Alice Baker and Janie Bullus.
Taking the lead at quarter time by 11 goals to 5, Diamonds never looked threatened. With tight defence it meant Wessex resorted to throwing long passes which Emily Pascoe and Ellie Carter picked off. Diamonds led by 22 to 10 at half time.
The conditions deteriorated in the second half and with Diamonds making changes this meant they took a while to adjust. Alice Bradley returned to the fold after a while away and with her height in the circle she got lots of rebounds from stray shots.
Treya picked up the player of the match award for a tireless display while the players’ player award was shared between Janie and Emily. A good solid start to 2023 for Diamonds.
