FROME Netball Club has had another very successful Summer League this year, with 10 teams participating from various local towns.
It was very close this year, but the winners were Demons from Midsomer Norton and Paulton area, closely followed by Frome’s very own Stars team.
The club says, “We saw some excellent game play this year, despite the very unpredictable weather. The presentation of awards took place after the final matches of the evening by June Barnes, chairman of the club, who thanked everyone for taking part and a special thank you to all the umpires because without them, there would be no matches.
“It’s a very exciting times at Frome Netball Club at the moment. We are expanding the provisions that we are offering to the budding netballers of Frome and the surrounding areas. The new sessions are:
“Starting Monday 7th August 7-8pm – Netball Now for 8 consecutive weeks
“Netball Now is a simple, straightforward way to play netball. It’s not a coached session, it’s not a competition led by rules, regulations or scores recorded, it is simply a session that you turn up at, pay a small fee and play a game of netball! If you’re currently playing and want to play a bit more as it beats the gym; or if you’re looking for a flexible, non-committed way to play netball then Netball Now is for you!
“Starting Tuesday 15th August 6-7pm – Walking Netball
“Walking Netball is a slower version of the game; it is netball, but at a walking pace. The game has been designed so that anyone can play it regardless of age or fitness level. From those who have dropped out of the sport they love due to serious injury, to those who believed they had hung up their netball trainers many years ago, it really is for everyone.
“Starting Tuesday 22nd August 7-8pm – Back To Netball
“Back to Netball sessions are running across England and provide women of all ages with a gentle re-introduction to the sport. Run by passionate and enthusiastic coaches, sessions cover the basics of the game including passing, footwork and shooting. Sessions finish with a friendly game to put the skills you have learnt into practice.
“Starting Monday 2nd October 7-8pm – a new senior training session
“This is a casual training session from age 16 upwards for the more experienced netballer. This is open to new and existing members. There are limited spaces, so it is advisable to register your interest.”
