This was the last match of this half of the season for Stars and they took to the court, keen to take the win for their final game.
The first quarter saw Stars take an early, but close lead. A new defending combination of Sheri Pleasants at GK and Kathy Dredge at GD worked tirelessly to turn over the ball for the conversion. Stars converted a high percentage of their turnovers to goal, which ended the quarter with Stars having a two goal advantage 12 10.
In the second quarter, Devizes fought back with a strong defensive front. Despite a lot of positive play through court and effective circle feeds from the centre court unit of Sophie Cox and Amelia Pratten, Devizes were successful at converting their gains to goal and took a one goal lead 24 23.
The third quarter was a close battle between the two teams. Hannah Dredge entered the game at GA and the shooting team of Dredge and Sophie Garton worked hard to maintain good shooting stats, converting turnovers well.
Despite this, the Devizes’ through court defence strategy won them the ball and the quarter, and they led by two goals 30 32. A change in the last quarter came from Frome’s coach Sally Carns, who moved Garton back into the defensive end (GD) and brought Georgia Cox back on at GS. This change did not unsettle Frome’s game and the team played some great through-court netball.
Kate Smith played an excellent defensive game and worked hard to gain some important turnovers. However, Stars’ who are sponsored by Dennis Maps and Wessex Drains final efforts were not enough to bag them the win.
The game ended with Devizes maintaining their two goal lead to take the win. Player of the Match- Georgia Cox and Players’ Player – Kathy Dredge.
