Harvest is traditionally a time of sharing and this month organisers of The Frome Independent are teaming up with Fair Frome, asking visitors to donate non-perishable food items to a ‘harvest festival’ collection.
With a drop off point by Loop de Loop, next to Frome Library, Fair Frome are looking for store cupboard staples such as in-date tinned goods, sugar, rice and pasta and toiletries to support local people through times of crisis.
Kate Bielby from The Frome Independent said, “We’re asking for support from market goers in response to the recent appeal from Fair Frome.
“Every month we partner with local charities, and visitors and residents alike are always really generous, so we hope people will feel able to donate items to this vital service.”
Lenka Grimes from Fair Frome added, “At the start of the school year we have seen higher demand as families have struggled to feed their children during the six-week break. This is coupled with the fact that those that would normally donate food items are struggling themselves with the cost-of-living so we are finding it difficult to fill our food parcels.”
Kate added, “Continuing the ‘harvest’ theme this month, the market is welcoming the amazing Withywood CIC, a new organisation offering unique opportunities for adults with additional needs in the beautiful walled Secret Gardens of Berkely.
“Head to Frome Library to find out more about their work, what they have to offer for local groups and individuals and how you can support them. They’ll also have an apple press and a selection of fresh produce grown by their talented gardeners.”
The Frome Independent is in Frome town centre on Sunday 6th October, 10am-3pm
