IT’S official! FROME is one of the best places to live in the UK.
In a survey by the Sunday Times, Frome came 26th in a list of the 101 Best Places to Live in Britain.
Frome was described as ‘quintessential market town’ with ‘good vintage shops a family-run cinema, a boutique hotel – the Archangel – and the ancient Three Swans pub.
The news follows on from last year’s accolade from The Times who listed Frome as the sixth coolest place to live in the UK due to its popularity with celebrities and summer markets.
Frome mayor, cllr Dickon Moore said, “I’m thrilled with the news that Frome has ranked 26th in the Best Places to Live in the UK list. I believe the reason that Frome is becoming so well-known and admired is down to the huge community spirit that the town has.
“There are so many amazing people doing amazing things in the town, and I am proud that we are again being recognised in this way.”
The town’s pull was further highlighted recently by a visit from rock legend Robert Plant, lead vocalist of world-famous rock band Led Zeppelin, who was seen relaxing with friends in the Three Swans in King Street.
The Sunday Times described Frome in the following way; “This quintessential English market town was once an important hub for wool and silk, yet is not fancy like Bath, 17 miles away. Until about a decade ago, Frome was a bit down at heel. Now it is busy regenerating itself: the once-derelict silk mill offers an annual festival, as well as performance space and studios for local businesses. It’s got good vintage shops, a family-run cinema, a boutique hotel – the Archangel – and the ancient Three Swans pub … It’s popular with families anxious to take advantage of relatively low property prices; a four-bed home is £220,000.”
