FROME’S streets are back on the box after the second season of hit BBC drama ‘Poldark’ started last weekend.
The hit TV show aired its first episode of the second season on Sunday night, and will this season include scenes shot on location in Frome.
Actors and crew were seen filming in town shortly before Christmas last year, when Gentle Street and St John the Baptist Church were fenced off from the public.
A member of the crew told Frome Times at the time, “Frome is a beautiful place. The residents are fantastic and very accommodating whilst the filming was going on.
“Gentle Street certainly reflected the period in which Poldark was set in, so I think the filming looked great.”
Great Chalfield Manor and Neston, near Melksham were also used as filming locations for the new episodes.
The BBC1 show, starring Aidan Turner, is set in the late 18th century and the first season, watched by an average 8 million viewers a week, saw Ross Poldark return to his native Cornwall after fighting in the American Revolution.
The next episode will be at 9pm on Sunday on BBC1.
With millions expected to watch the new episodes, TV licensing is reminding local location-spotters to make sure they are correctly licensed before tuning in, after licensing laws changed recently.
Richard Chapman, spokes-person for TV Licensing South West said, “The fact that so much of the show is filmed on location in the south west means there’s plenty of familiar local places to watch out for, adding to the fun.
“We’re reminding fans to make sure they are correctly licensed, especially if they plan on watching the show on iPlayer. From 1st September, viewers need to be covered by a TV licence to watch catch up TV on BBC iPlayer, as well as if they are watching live on TV, online or on their mobile.”
