FROME Park Bowls Club’s truncated summer season due to the Coronavirus pandemic has now finished.
As with many other sporting activities, the restrictions led to many changes but the members of Frome Park adapted the best they could and enjoyed some friendly games between themselves.
The club report, “The men had a regular Saturday pairs league, 2 sections of 6 teams played a round robin with the winners from each section being Kim Pitts/ Wayne Pitts and Derrick Shuman/Paul Ellis. The Pitts prevailing to take the overall crown.
“The club also organised a roving Jack Singles known as the Covid Cup. There were no markers required and players enjoyed this unique challenge. It was great to see a couple of our newer members in the final, congratulations to Derrick Shuman who just pipped John Barber for the victory.
“Also, to give members a chance to get some bowling time, all losers in the 1st round got to enter the Covid Plate, this was won by Mike Gulliford, with Frank Russell finishing as runner up.
“The last couple of Saturdays saw a triples competition which was won by Clive Smith, Keith McLeod & Steve West. There was also a mixed pairs afternoon each week and the ladies met up most Tuesdays and Thursdays to play some matches together as well.
“The green has played really well all summer and the flower borders have looked lovely, thanks to our hard working members. We have also had a nice addition to the surroundings which became quite a talking point. A woodpecker sculpture on a old tree stump, many thanks goes to Park Ranger Dave for his workmanship, a very attractive piece of artwork.
“We all hope that next summer will see some normality return and we have got through this virus hanging over us and not only the bowlers of Frome Park, but every other sportsperson can resume and enjoy their activity in the usual way.
