Frome Park men have been hitting top form in the Turnbull Cup; this competition is the Somerset County Club Knockout Championship.
After their win at Frome Selwood, the Park faced another difficult tie, this time an away trip to Bloomfield, Bath with Park claiming a great win by 12 shots – 77 shots to 65 shots. Frome’s outstanding rink was John Curtis, Richard Phillips, John Pritchard & Steve West who dominated their game and only losing 5 ends out of the 21 to post a tie clinching win by 28 – 7.
This set up a home draw in the quarter-final against Keynsham. with Frome winning by 9 shots, 69 shots to 60. Frome’s best rink was Kim Pitts, Dave Whitehead, Nigel Hunt & Wayne Pitts.
Frome Park now move into the semi–finals which will be played on a neutral green at Clarence Park, Weston Super Mare, on Sunday 11th August against Clevedon, one of the county’s strongest teams and in the top 5 of the Premier League.
The excellent run of Wayne Pitts in the Singles Champion of Champions competition ended with a defeat in the area final at Wells against James Amery from Taunton, losing by 21 – 12.
The men’s teams are however having a more difficult time in the County league. The “A” team had an away trip to Keynsham which ended with the narrowest of defeats, going down by 1 shot after winning on 2 of the 3 rinks, so picking up 4 points. This was followed by a home match against Knowle “B”, this time the game finished in Frome’s favour, again winning on 2 rinks and overall by 65 shots to 49 shots, picking up 10 points. The in-form rink of Malcolm Jepson, Dave Whitehead, Nigel Hunt & Wayne Pitts having the best win once again by a healthy 14 shot margin.
The “B” team are facing a relegation battle after slipping to bottom spot after another couple of defeats. Firstly at home against fellow strugglers Prattens and then at Norwest “A” with Norwest winning on all rinks.
