THE Frome Park men’s teams had a good weekend in the County League.
The “A” team had a tough away fixture at Purnells “B” who sat two places above Frome Park. This turned out to be a very close encounter with both teams putting together some good competitive bowling, but eventually the visitors from Frome managed to secure an overall win by just 5 shots, 57-62, winning on 2 rinks to pick up 10pts.
The “B” team had their best result of the season when they picked up all 12pts against their visitors Bath “C”; this was a very commanding display from the home side which led to them winning on all rinks and by 25 shots overall, 68-43.
The mixed team had a very good win at home to Wyrall Park in the mixed league, finally running out as winners on 2 rinks and overall by 50-44 to pick up 10pts. This win gave them an outside chance of winning the Mid Somerset Mixed League if they could win their last match away at Fosseway and other results went their way. Unfortunately their previous good form deserted them on the day and they had a very disappointing match and lost out to their hosts by a score of 56-49 and winning on only 1 rink to only pick up 2pts and miss out on the top spot and league title.
In a mixed friendly against Sherborne, the Park bowlers had a good afternoon and performed very well to record a good win by 78-64.
The Park Ladies have had some good results in the Wild League. The first of these was an away win at Paulton by 60-45, picking up 10pts. The best winning triple was Myra Drew, Olivia Grant and Val Church. They put together some excellent bowling to run out convincing winners by 21-10.
The ladies then played away at their local rivals, Frome Selwood, and again picked up another 10pts with a 52-49 win. On this occasion the best winning triple for the Park was Pat Tanton, Lesley Elms and Joan Curtis who bowled very well as a team and ran out winners by 20-11.
