FROME poet Liam Parker, known locally for his spoken-word performances, has now published his first collection. ’Naked’ is a lyrical exploration of the power of words to evoke emotion, and is exquisitely illustrated by Lilly Bell, Rhiannon Izard, and Lucia Lacedelli.
Liam says, “The poems use sensual imagery to delve deeply into my own personal quest to discover identity in an increasingly cynical world. They explore a range of moods, from mystical imagination and spiritual longing to the painful reality of grief.”
The central poem in this collection is Snow Leopard, described by author Crysse Morrison as ‘an extraordinary, uncompromising, and sometimes unfathomable journey into the mind and imagination of the poet. At times vividly visual and visceral, at other times tripping into word play, the philosophical questing at the heart of the poem evokes fantasies and legends, and suggests that nothing in the world is as simple as we think.”
Some of the poems in ‘Naked’ were heard at the recent ‘Frome Creative Collective’ event ‘A Late Summer Night’s Dream’ hosted by Liam in the atmospheric garden of the Merchants House which also raised a respectable £50 for Dorothy House Hospice.
‘Naked’ is available from Hunting Raven for £11.99, and from the poet.
