FROME’s Poppy Appeal has raised a record total of nearly £45,000 in donations this year representing an increase of almost 8% compared to last year’s total.
The current total raised is £44,870 and all donations collected during the Poppy Appeal help to provide support to serving and ex-serving members of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependants who are experiencing hardship, or dealing with the effects of injuries or bereavements.
Frome and District Poppy Appeal organiser, Richard Aspray said, “Given the current economic climate, this is a tribute to the tremendous generosity of our local community.
“We had many kind volunteers, as well as several local organisations to support us this year. I would like to thank all of our volunteers as well as the supermarkets, businesses, organisations and schools that took part in this year’s appeal.
“The Royal British Legion’s work is entirely dependent on the generous support of the public and every donation for a poppy related item makes a difference to the lives of people in our armed forces community.
“Frome has a fantastic reputation for raising money to support good causes, but this can only happen with help from our local community and organisations, as well as with the cooperation of our local businesses,” says Richard. “Thank you to all our volunteers including Victoria Turner, who was the Poppy Appeal lead volunteer at Asda. Victoria set up the stall and then did the first 1-2 hours on 15 out of the 17 days the appeal lasted for. A truly amazing effort.
“If anyone would like to be involved in supporting next year’s appeal, as a volunteer, organisation or business, please contact me on 07511 961248.”
