  • Strong showing from Frome at Sevens tournament

Frome RFC enjoyed an excellent day at the annual Bath Combination Rugby Sevens Tournament at Avon RFC last month, topping their pool with three convincing victories before their cup run came to an end in a hard-fought quarter-final.

Frome made an outstanding start to the day, opening with an impressive 59-0 victory over Corsham RFC before following it up with a 45-5 win against Melksham RFC.

A hard-fought 26-10 victory over Oldfield RFC secured top spot in the group and a place in the cup quarter-finals.

Awaiting Frome in the knockout stages were Chippenham RFC. In a fiercely contested encounter, Frome battled throughout but were edged out 21-12, bringing their tournament to a close.

  • Local performer helps bring Spider-Man to life in blockbuster film

A local man who specialises in bringing digital characters to life has helped create Spider-Man’s movements in action scenes for the big screen.

Teifion Sussex is a motion capture performer and voice actor who specialises in bringing characters to life through movement, dialogue or a combination of both.

His body movements and facial expressions were recorded by a London-based visual effects studio for selected scenes in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, helping create the digital superhero seen on screen.

Teifion said, “It has felt like a dream from day one and honestly, it still feels like a dream now. The only evidence I have that it’s real is waking up each morning and finding that the memories are still there.”

  • Residents call for action on energy costs and fossil fuels

Frome residents are calling for action to reduce energy bills and improve energy security for local communities.

Members of two groups, Frome Families For The Future and Sustainable Frome, gathered on 31st July to hold a protest calling for action.

The action comes following recent extreme heat in the UK and the announcement of an Energy Independence Bill, which the residents are arguing provides an opportunity for the UK to embrace renewable energy and reduce its reliance on fossil fuels.

Vicki Chillcott said, “Families across Frome are struggling with their energy bills. We need energy independence so we can avoid these spikes. Renewables are cheaper and cleaner. The new extreme heat records in June showed the climate crisis is here and we can’t afford to make a bad situation even worse by failing to move away from fossil fuels fast enough. It’s time we embrace renewables with the determination this moment requires.”
