FROME’S Refresh project, launched last year, is a campaign that helps the disadvantaged communities in Frome have access to basic toiletries, working closely with local schools.
The project now partners with four schools and is helping 42 youngsters on a regular basis. Lesley Hooper, of the project said, “Feedback is very positive, as self-esteem and confidence in these young people soars due to having access to their own toiletries. One girl was delighted to now have her own toothbrush and not to have to share a toothbrush with her brother. We have just delivered toiletries to enable the students to have a supply over the summer holiday.
“In September, there will be a new cohort of recipients who will receive one of our cloth bags containing their toiletries. Top ups will be supplied every six – eight weeks, to both the new and existing cohorts.
“We have no stock left at all, so we would love to invite readers to take new and unopened items to the drop off point at Frome Town Hall. Here is the list of products, for boys or girls: shower gel; shampoo; anti-perspirants; toothpaste; toothbrush; sanitary towels.
“If any local groups would like to organise a special collection for us, we would love to hear from you! An initial bag costs around £10, so if you would like to sponsor a bag for September, then do get in touch.”
