Hunting Raven Books is looking for avid readers who would like to read and review some of this year’s latest releases.
Tina Gaisford-Waller, manager of Hunting Raven says, “Lots of fantastic books have already been published this year. But as our doors have been closed it’s been harder for readers to discover titles they might enjoy.
“Now that publishers are beginning to get back to normal, we’ve been inundated with review copies of titles published from this January onwards, and we would love some help in reviewing as many of these as possible.
“Our review pile is normally kept in check by our fabulous Proof Pudding Review Club, which meets monthly to discuss what they have read. In pre-Covid times, we used to meet in the gin lounge of the Cornerhouse, then switched to Zoom during the first lockdown. But a lack of available review copies over the winter months and a crazy-busy Christmas trading period meant we had to put the club on hold.”
This April the Proof Pudding Review Club will return – and to mark its second anniversary, Hunting Raven would like to extend the offer of review copies more widely.
“Review copies, also known as ‘proofs’, are specially produced early editions of a book distributed by the publisher for review purposes only. They are sent to book reviewers in the media and to key independent and chain booksellers and book buyers. They often contain small mistakes still, as they are sent to print just before a final proofread has been performed.
“So many great books have launched whilst our doors have been closed. We want to review as many proofs as we can and give the best of these books the moment in the spotlight that they deserve.
“If you would like to take part, call or email us and ask to receive your free proof copy*. Tell us a bit about what you like to read and we will do our best to match you with a book we hope you’ll enjoy – though half the fun is reading something you’d never normally have picked.
“If you are out and about, you can come and collect from the door or if you are local but staying home, we can deliver. All we ask is that you write a short review which we can share in the shop when we reopen, as well as on our social media channels.”
