FROME RFC hosted a well travelled Swanage team, with both teams nearing the bottom of the table this was always going to be a fiercely contested game.
Playing against the wind and up the slope, it didn’t take long for the visitors to take the lead. Some slick hands in the centres saw Swanage play the ball for the winger to go over the line, which the converted.
Within 5 minutes Frome were stood under the posts again 0-12. Frome began to gain some momentum and some strong forward ball from Webster, Beaumont and Castle, began to ask questions of the Swanage defence, Frome couldn’t however take control or build on the momentum which saw visitors add another 2 tries before the interval. 0-26.
Frome started the 2nd half in the way they have most games this season, proving they are up for a battle. Swanage seemed shocked and had to find a way to stop from getting back into the game.
The first points of the second half came from Frome’s Desmond Kruger, when a strong decoy line from Toten created a hole for Kruger to go through and over the line, which he coverted 7-26. It didn’t take long for Kruger to go over the line again with another strong carry. 12-26.
Frome looked like they were going to score another quick break away try when Meenan had a bulldozing run down the centre of the pitch but sadly the pass was fumbled.
Swanage saw the final whistle in with a penalty and another try.
Man of the Match Garrie Webster. Frome look to get their season on track with a trip to Corsham on Saturday.
