Frome RFC have taken part in NatWest RugbyForce 2020, carrying out improvements and repairs to the club facilities to ensure they were ready for the start of rugby.
The clubs have now been greenlit by the Department of Digital, Culture, media and Sport (DCMS) to play Ready4Rugby, an adapted non-contact game and O2 Touch.
The club report, “As Nat- West RugbyForce Weekend was postponed in June due to the pandemic, volunteers at Frome RFC were called upon to pitch in and roll up their sleeves to help with upgrades at the club.
“Improvements, included the painting of some key areas within the clubhouse, clearing the car parks of overgrown bushes and trees, strimming the pitches, treating all the fences and barbecue wooden seating areas and the installation of a large perimeter fence around the exterior container, amongst other tasks
Frome RFC chairman, Shane Lewis said, “Firstly, I really can’t begin to thank the volunteers enough. They gave up their time over the two-day event at the weekend and we’ve been able to achieve so much – the facilities are looking fantastic. This is the first time we’ve taken part in the NatWest Rugby Force weekend and it’s great to see what we’ve achieved with all the volunteers’ help”.
The club added, “In its twelfth year, NatWest RugbyForce is a nationwide programme developed with England Rugby which provides an opportunity for rugby clubs to open their doors to their local communities, team members and volunteers to help make valuable improvements to their clubs.
“This year, NatWest have offered more help to support the rugby community than ever before, providing an opportunity for a record number of clubs to get involved in the programme, with grants ranging from £500 to £3,000 awarded to clubs to help renovate facilities.”
