FROME Rotary Club has appointed a female president for the first time in its 88 year history.
Dot Cretney has taken over from former president Humphrey Barnes to become the first lady president of the club. As the club was formed in 1925 it has taken a very long time for this to happen, but club members welcomed Dot into her new role. Dot is well known to Frome as chair of the Scout association and is involved in many other active roles.
Dot’s first big challenge will be her involvement with the second Frome Half Marathon on Sunday 21st July and she looks forward to a very successful race this year, as proceeds from the event will be going to her chosen charities, which include the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance.
Humphrey Barnes’ final task before handing over the presidency of the Rotary Club of Frome was to induct Margaret Gilmour as a new member. During his year as club president, Humphrey was also able to present £10,000 split between Critchill Special Needs School and Harry’s Hydro from events organised by Rotary. He will now take a well earned rest, but wished Dot every success in her presidential year.
