FROME Royal British Legion have planted a memorial tree in Victoria Park to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
Members turned out on a bright November day to plant the copper beech tree with the help of Frome Town councillors.
“There was always a plan to have a tree planted in the year of the platinum jubilee,” said a spokesperson for Frome RBL. “Chairman Richard Aspray said a few words to thank the council and to thank all who turned up. As the tree was planted all members scattered poppy seeds, and once finished put some memorial poppies around the tree.
“We are sure that the tree will grow big and strong and remind us all of those who sacrificed so much.”
A plaque will be placed at the base of the tree saying, ‘Lest we Forget – Frome Branch Royal British Legion Planted in 2022 – Platinum Jubilee Year of HM Queen Elizabeth II’.
