THE summer isn’t far away and in the rugby terms that means only one thing, the Rugby 7s season!
Frome Rugby Club reports, “Rugby Union’s short form, Sevens returns to Frome this June 18th for its ninth instalment, having missed out the last two years due to Covid. We will be building on 2019’s event and see 56 teams, the most teams we’ve had at the event, battling it out across six pitches and enjoying the festival atmosphere at what has become the biggest annual sevens event in the region.
“Once again we will have camping available from Friday 17th June to Sunday 19th June with the usual bars, Pimm’s tents and hospitality.
“The much-anticipated event will run five different levels of competition; Men’s Super Social, Men’s Social, Women’s Social, with the highest level of rugby being played in the Women’s Open and Men’s Open. We also offer a prize fund of £750 for the winners of each the Men’s and Women’s Open. All supported by official kit supplier, Olorun Sports, from South Wales.
“On Friday 17th June, the club will play host to a 15s exhibition game, which will see Huish Tigers take on Cherubs RFC, which will be a great night’s entertainment. The match will be played on our first team pitch and is completely free to come up and watch from our large balcony, which is also connected to our bar.
“We have Gloucester Rugby and Italian international Jake Polledri’s Just Pressed Cider mobile bar on site too, the craft cider is made from freshly pressed apples harvested from local Somerset orchards, certainly set to be a fan favourite.
“On the day will also have a number of street food vendors, including BBQ, Thai, Mexican, pizza, coffee and ice cream vendors, as well as our outside bar which is located between the pitches at Frome RFC’s own ‘Captain’s Cabin’.
“The whole tournament is completely free to come up and watch, with games starting at 10am running through to the Finals in the late afternoon/early evening. We will have music playing throughout the day creating a festival atmosphere which will leads late into the night in our clubhouse.”
