September got off to a festive start for Frome Running Club with the Warminster Carnival Chase 10K. Frome fielded a strong contingent of runners for this picturesque run down country lanes, tracks and trails.
Peter Larman was the first Frome Club runner to cross the line, finishing fifth overall with an impressive time of 00:39:24. Ted Sprules was hot on his heels, posting a time of 00:41:24 to earn ninth position overall. Peter Reed was next with a time of 00:46:34, followed by Julie Chilvers in 00:49:04, Helen James in 00:55:28 and Martin Ward in 00:57:08.
The following Sunday saw the return of the Chippenham Half Marathon. This fast, predominantly flat course takes runners through the centre of Chippenham and out along scenic country lanes. Joseph Donworth (MSEN) finished first for Frome in a time of 01:20:07, earning himself sixth position overall. He was followed by Kat Uphill (FSEN) in 01:32:04, Nick Cooper (MV50-59) in 01:34:37, Sally Brooker (FV45-54) in 02:00:20 and Sara Elliott (FV55-64) in 02:04:14. Helen James (FV45-54) was next to finish in 02:05:18, followed by Anne Porter (FV55-64) in 02:08:55 and Dave Perrett (MV40-49) in 02:19:10. On the same day, intrepid Frome runner, Martin Ward (MV60), made his way to Martock, South Somerset for the Ash Excellent 8. He completed the approximately eight-mile multi-terrain race in 01:23:43.
On 16 September, five more of Frome’s finest lined up for the Foxtrot 5, a road race around Broughton Gifford. Kat Uphill (FSEN) was the first female to finish in 00:31:42. She was followed by Ted Sprules (MV60), whose time of 00:32:41 earned him first in category. Peter Reed (MV40) crossed the line in 00:35:55, followed by Helen James (FSEN) in 00:41:13 and Christopher Steele (MV50) in 00:42:52.
