FROME Running Club members recently took on the Stourhead 10k, the North Devon Coast Challenge (three marathons in three days!) and the popular 10k and 3k Dilton Dash.
The club report, “Stourhead was the setting for a picturesque 10km trail run on Saturday 14th May. The race started and finished under the Stone Arch of the driveway to the house and takes in Stourton village, the lakes, and the woodland area out with the lake. Three Frome runners participated that day, Ted Sprules, Andrew Smallbone and Sarah Smallbone, with Ted leading the way, finishing in a very respectable 44 minutes 42 seconds, earning him first place in his age category.
“Fiona Norris rose to the challenge of the North Devon Coast challenge which consisted of three marathons in three days – 78.6 miles! The route starts near Hartland Point and finishes at Porlock Bay, passing famous towns and villages such as Croyde Bay, Lynton, Lynmouth, Ilfracombe and the Valley of the Rocks. Fiona completed the course in 26 hours, 40minutes and 58 seconds; a mighty achievement, well done Fiona!
“The sun was beating down on Dilton on Sunday 22nd May when a number of Frome runners participated in the 3km and 10km races. The 10km is a trail race, including footpaths, track, woodland, stiles and gates and of course a few uphill sections!
“Catherine Gregory ran the shorter race with her young sons and completed the course in 37 minutes and 5 seconds. In the 10km race, Ted Sprules bagged 12th place overall, crossing the line in 49 minutes and 6 seconds and Emma Surridge was first Frome lady home, in 55 minutes and 54 seconds. Marcus Gaffney finished in 1 hour 3 minutes and 36 seconds and Lucy Gaffney in 1 hour 7 minutes and 2 seconds. Frome stalwart Emma Evans secured 1 hour 10 minutes and 1 second.
