Frome Selwood had two excellent results in the MSL Mixed.
At Frome Park all 12 points were taken, Selwood winning 85-25. Rink scores:- Colin Webb, Susan Simenton, Brian Lye, Mike Mason 35-8; Terry Joyce, Ken Matthews, Kath Kingman, Steve Chant 31-5; Tony Lemon, Jean Lemon, Peter Simenton, David James 19-12.
And at Prattens maximum points again with an overall score of 63-45. Jean Lemon, Rosa Pearce, Graham Atkinson, Mike Geake 25-11; Tony Lemon, Sandra Dowie, Peter Simenton, David James 19-17; and the rink of Brian Denness, Susan Simenton, Brian Lye and Steve Chant scored a ‘hot shot’ on the last end to win 19-17.
The men had mixed results in the SCL. At Knowle B, 10pnts. were taken, Selwood winning 58-47. Winning rinks:- Dave Griffin, Ken Matthews, Brian Lye, Mike Mason 24-11; Tony Lemon, Peter Simenton, David James, Steve Chant 23-18. But, at Norwest A, only 2pnts. were obtained, Selwood going down 51-78. Winning rink:- Dave Griffin, Bob Norris, Brian Lye, Mike Mason 20-15.
The ladies have also been struggling to get league points. Away to Street just 2pnts. thanks to Sandra Dowie, Sue Bohana, Jean Lemon 14-11. And the same rink won 22-18 at home to Norwest for another 2 valuable points.
At Alexandra Bath a 5 rink mixed triples friendly saw Selwood win on three rinks but just lose overall 82-89. Winning rinks:- Brian Denness, Sandra Dowie, Peter Simenton 24-13; Colin Webb, Judy Matthews, David James 20-10; Terry Joyce, Margaret Reynolds, Mike Geake 19-17. Sadly a mixed friendly at home with Shaftsbury had to be abandoned after 6 ends due to heavy rain.
On Sunday 16th, neighbours Frome Park staged an Australian Pairs competition with several local clubs entering. Four Selwood members did extremely well: Peter Simenton and Terry Joyce took first prize, with Tony Lemon and David James coming third.”
