IT’S billed as ‘a great day out for the family’ and that’s just what Frome Show 2012 is going to be, according to show organisers.
From the time visitors walk in through the gate at the West Woodlands showground till the time they go home they will be able to enjoy a fantastic range of entertainment, competitions, food, drink and demonstrations and, says show secretary Brenda Scott, they’ll also be able to soak up the atmosphere that’s unique to the show which takes place on Saturday 8th September.
Brenda said, “We’ve got a great programme lined up for the Village Green including stunt motorcycles and bikes, pony club games and ferret racing, while in the Main Ring there are show jumping competitions, carriage driving and hunt beagles plus, for the first time this year, races for scurries and Shetland ponies.
“Hundreds of sheep, cattle and goats, some of them coming to the show for the first time, will be competing for honours in the Livestock Village before taking part in one of the highlights of the show, the Grand Parade in the Main Ring at 3.00pm.
“All of our outdoor trade stands have been sold and so there will be a huge range of products, services and advice on offer, while the Fine Food, Local Food and Rural Craft halls, also sell outs, will feature the best of the best from around the region.
“The Handicraft, Homecraft and Horticulture Marquee will be home to a spectacular display of exhibits ranging from knitted garments to homemade cakes, flowers to miniature gardens, while the Outdoor Pursuits Area and the lane leading to it will feature traditional rural craft and sporting skills which visitors can both watch and enjoy for themselves.
“And, underlining the show’s long reputation as one of the country’s most important cheese showcases, the tables in the Cheese Pavilion will be heaving under the weight of hundreds of different types of cheese and other dairy products, including those competing for the Global Cheese Awards.
“Throughout the day celebrity chef Lesley Waters will be demonstrating various recipes using local ingredients situated in the Pavilion’s Rangemaster Kitchen and Radio 2’s Nigel Barden will be in the new Cheese Bar, mixing two of Somerset’s most iconic products, cheese and cider while among the cheeses which will be tempting visitors will be a range created and produced by Sean Wilson, better known as Corrie’s Martin Platt.
“And that’s not all, there’s the funfair, the Dragons of Wye-Ten Puppet Theatre, the small animal nursery, dog agility competitions and so much more, too!
