FROME Agricultural and Cheese Show is set to be another bumper event this year, and new president Roger Penny is looking forward to seeing his favourite show from the top spot.
The popular Frome show will take place on Saturday 12th September at West Woodlands Showground.
An array of exhibits and prize winners from the Global Cheese Awards will be on display to the public, alongside a cattle show, cooking demonstrations, and family entertainment throughout the day.
Roger Penny, founder and managing director of R.M. Penny demolition and plant hire, is entering his first year as president of the show.
“It’s the top show at the moment in my opinion,” he said. “It’s a friendly, warm, magical, happy place to be. It’s all about having a good time but it’s also a great place for local businesses to show local people what they can offer.”
Roger, who founded R.M.Penny (Plant Hire & Demolition) Ltd in 1960, has a long history of involvement with the show, dating back to when it was staged on the old showfield site at Fromefield, where he showed the Shire horses he bred. This time, however, he will be in the ring presenting trophies to the winning owners.
“I look forward to the show every year anyway but this year, going as president, will be something special,” he said. “I can’t wait.”
Show secretary Brenda Scott said that it was a great pleasure having Roger as president, a post he will hold for two years.
Brenda said, “He’s done a great deal for us over the years and the presidency is a fitting way of saying thank you.”
Over the past five years attendance at Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show has soared; it attracted over 21,000 visitors last year.
The popular community event has also become one of the largest cattle shows in the UK, with over 600 cattle class entries last year and over 450 cattle exhibited.
Other entertainment will include Titan the Robot, Bolddog Lings FMX stunt team, the Joseph Peace Fire Stunt Spectacular, and Birds of Prey Displays Ltd.
Advance tickets for the show are on sale with a new ticket hotline at the Cheese and Grain (01373 455420), and online at www.fromecheeseshow. co.uk, where you can find full details of the show.
Tickets can also be bought from tourist information centres in Frome and surrounding towns and villages.
