FROME Sport and Fitness was officially opened by local councils this month, after it underwent a multimillion pound revamp earlier this year.
On Saturday 2nd July, the brand new Frome Sport & Fitness was officially opened by the Mayor of Frome, councillor Toby Eliot and councillor Edward Drewe, vice chair of Mendip District Council, following its extensive £2.5 million refurbishment.
The celebratory open day welcomed over 1,000 local people, who enjoyed a wide range of fun and free activities at the revamped centre.
Allister Wood, general manager at Frome Sport & Fitness said, “We had an outstanding open day and it was brilliant to see so many people enjoying the new facilities.
“We’re really pleased with the new centre; it makes us fit for the future and means we will be able to provide first class leisure facilities to the people of Frome for many years to come.
“As a registered charity, Fusion Lifestyle is on a mission to make sport and leisure affordable and accessible to all. We are looking forward to becoming the hub for sporting and leisure activities in the region, helping more and more people take up a healthy lifestyle.”
The upgraded Frome Sport & Fitness centre offers an enhanced range of facilities including a larger and improved fitness suite with the latest equipment; a large soft play area; new classes in new studios; a dedicated indoor cycling studio; brand new changing facilities, and an improved pool area.
The centre also offers indoor and outdoor facilities for team sports including squash and basketball courts, outdoor pitches and tennis courts.
Further improvements are planned for the Sport Hall.
Councillor John Parham, Mendip’s portfolio holder for finance, governance and corporate services added, “It’s wonderful to see how this popular leisure centre has been transformed by Fusion and I’m confident that local people will be very happy with the improvements.
“At the time when many local authorities were closing leisure facilities, Mendip took the bold decision to protect the long-term future of sport and leisure across the district by allowing Fusion to take over long-term leases of our leisure centres.
“That decision has already led to a multi-million-pound improvement programme which will bring all of our facilities up to date, whilst at the same time saving the council nearly £1 million per year, money that can be reinvested in key frontline services.
“We will also see continued investment in these centres for the duration of the lease, ensuring the leisure offer across Mendip keeps up to date with current trends, fashions and expanding customer requirements.
“It is a model that many other local authorities are trying to follow with several already in contact with us to find out how we achieved this successful partnership with Fusion Lifestyle.”
