The first quarter saw Stars settle slowly into the game, and although there were lots of good passages of play, Holt’s tight defensive structure down court forced a lot of errors.
Sophie Cox and Amelia Pratten controlled the pace of the game, feeding some smooth passes into the shooters and the quarter ended with Frome leading by one goal 7-6.
In the second quarter, the turnovers from the defensive unit of Kathy Dredge, Sophie Garton and Kate Smith assisted Frome with their continued lead. Holt were persistent with their defensive pressure throughout court, but Kathy provided support coming out of defence and Kate at WD brought the ball through court nicely.
Frome increased the score line to a 3-goal lead 16-13. At half time Sheri Pleasants came on at WD and used her speed to stay on top of her opponent. The shooting combination of Hannah Dredge and Georgia Cox continued to work hard to break through a highly-contesting defensive unit of Holt.
To Frome’s credit, they were confident on their shot and increased the score to a 10-goal lead 26-16. The final quarter saw Kate back on court, this time at WA. She and Sophie worked well to tactically deliver the ball to the shooters and Stars maintained their effective through-court play. Holt worked tirelessly to lessen the goal difference, but at the full time whistle, Frome took the win with an eleven goal difference.
