Anyone who knows Frome will know Paris – the graffiti artist, that is, whose bright and cheerful works liven up many a dull corner or ugly bit of building of our town.
He’s a bit of a celebrity in the street art world. He’s worked with people like Warp Records, Coldplay, Glastonbury Festivals and Jony Ive, and for 16 years he was a driving force in Bristol’s underground creative culture, before moving to Frome in 2013.
Paris recently went to Palestine where he’s been adding his daubs to one of the world’s greatest gifts to graffiti artists, the infamous Separation Wall. Grotesque and intimidating, the wall runs right up to people’s back windows and sometimes even encircles houses.
On May 26th he’ll be telling the town about his trip, which included a visit to Banksy’s Walled off Hotel where he got a glimpse behind the scenes of this ground-breaking venture. “I’ll tell you how the separation wall looks close up (when you’re painting on it…)”, he promises, “and some of the other uglier realities of Israeli apartheid in Palestine, as seen from the perspective of an artist… on the ground… looking up.”
The event will take place on Friday 26th May, at St Catharine’s Hall, Park Road, Frome BA11 1EU, at 7.30pm. Entrance by donation.
