FROME’s largest independent gin and wine store Givino has started an exclusive partnership with a leading vineyard on the Balearic Island of Menorca, Spain.
Givino, based in Commerce Park, opened in April last year and has become the only UK importer of wine from the Binifadet vineyard, Menorca’s largest producing winery, that produces 100,000 bottles a year. One of the vineyard’s wines was this month selected in the top five best wines at the international Spanish wine awards in Barcelona.
“Being regular visitors to Menorca and to Binifadet vineyard itself since 2016, we were dismayed after Brexit that the vineyard had stopped shipping orders to the UK,” says Givino’s co-founder, Jamie Lymer.
“We approached the vineyard in October last year having recently been approved for our import licence. We wanted to see if they would be interested in the idea of Givino becoming a distributor, allowing them to have their wines once more enjoyed in the UK from the many thousands of visitors they receive in Menorca each year.
“Lluis, the owner, sat down with us and we explained about our business and our passion for Binifadet and their quality wines. He was delighted at the prospect of having Binifadet wines return to the UK and we secured a partnership to be the sole distributor.
“Having a sole exclusivity to a vineyard and importing wines direct from the source enables us to offer wines that not only we recommend but allows others like us to enjoy their produce at a time when many European businesses have found the process of exporting to the UK more complicated than ever before,” explains Jamie.
“We wanted to let people know as lots of people visit Menorca every year. When we launched the range at the end of January, we posted over 300 bottles to all parts of the UK.”
