Frome teenagers take on Rowing for Africa challenge

WHILST many are looking forward to the Easter holidays for some well earned rest after a busy term, four sixth form pupils will be facing a tough challenge they have set themselves.

Dan Roberts, Tommy Morgan, Luc Llywelyn-Roberts and Ben Wright are attempting to row, on the static machines in their school gym, for a period of 24 hours, starting at midday on 29th March. In this time they aim to cover a distance of 250km, equivalent to the width of Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Tanzania.

The lads have chosen this distance as in July they are travelling to Tanzania with Camps International for a month, where they will be taking part in community development projects and marine conservation.

They are all aiming to fund the cost of the trip themselves and have raised money in various ways including busking, lawn mowing, car boot sales and quiz nights, but wanted to add a physical challenge into the mix.

Dan, a player in Frome RFC’s Colts said, “It’s going to be a hard challenge as it is equivalent to rowing the English Channel over seven and a half times! But I am looking forward to testing my mental and physical limits.”
