Heartbreak for The Robins as they were knocked out by Taunton Town in the semi-final of the Somerset Premier Cup, after being rocked by two second-half goals.
An early goal from Johnny Gorman was cancelled out by the efforts from Lewis Hall and Matt Wright. The Robins were saved by Richard Dawley after seven minutes, as his goal-line block ended up being cleared by Connor Roberts.
Gorman gave the home side the lead on 20 minutes with his shot finding its way into the back of the net, after being set up by Ryan Bath. Despite The Robins being ahead, neither side were able to get a stranglehold on the game’s proceedings in the first half at a cold Badgers Hill. The half would end with The Robins a goal up as both teams headed into what would be a tight second 45 minutes.
A pretty uneventful first 15 minutes ensued when the second restarted, but it nearly burst into life when Cameron Allen strode into the box, but he wasn’t able to control the ball and Peacocks’ ‘keeper, Lloyd Irish, was able to get his hands on the ball.
The visitors would bring the semi-final back to level terms as Lewis Hall’s volley outside the box rifled past Carl Crabtree just after the hour mark.
The Robins would have a chance to equalise from the spot a mere minute later, as they were awarded a penalty after Bath was brought down in the box.
Allen would spurn the opportunity to give The Robins back their lead, as his penalty went just wide of Irish’s post.
Heartbreak for The Robins as Matt Wright gave The Peacocks a lead with nine minutes left on the clock, as his close range header was powered past Carl Crabtree.
