Frome Town Band is a community brass band with members aged six to 86.
Kirstie Jones, chair of Frome Town Band reports, “We welcome experienced players and complete beginners. If you want to be involved in any capacity please get in touch, contactfrometownband@ gmail.com.
“We meet on Wednesday evenings at Frome College, led by our professional musical director. Members pay a small monthly subscription and we look for opportunities to be part of the community and everything that makes Frome special. In spring and summer we joined the congregation of St John’s to bless the dressing of the well, we played at the Lion’s Fete and performed at Frome Hospital Fete and the fabulous Frome Festival.
“Autumn saw us playing at the Cheese Show and at the Carnival, entertaining the crowds and we were proud to be part of the huge town memorial service and later for the service at St John’s. Winter came and we were out again at the Christmas lights switch on.
“We gave our services to the community, playing carols at the Tree of Remembrance Service at Rook Lane Chapel, busking at WHY Christmas charity fair and entertaining the residents at Keyford Heights.
“Our Christmas concert, with guest artists Frome Town Youth Choir, was well attended.
“We busked our way to Christmas, raising further funds at a carol concert in Marston Lane. The support we received was very much appreciated.
“Our 100 club funded the tuition of intermediate band members and enable them to join the main band. Winners this year: Elaine Marks, Matthew Woolford, S Dixon, Carolyn Read, A King, Mrs Score, S Boulter, M Butler, J Levy, Mrs Hoare, S Dixon, P Warden, G Quartley and V Vincent.
“We began the year playing at Mells Daffodil festival. If you would like Frome Town band to play at your event, get in touch with us- we would be happy to take part.”
