The twelfth annual town crier festival will take place on Saturday 16th June, outside the library, from 10.45am-3.00pm.
Frome Town Crier, Mike Bishop and his wife and consort Angie say, “We are proud this year to be able to welcome 25 town criers to our wonderful town, making the Frome town crier competition the largest supported town crier competition anywhere in the country this year. So whatever your view is on Frome, the town must be doing something right, for so many town criers wanting to come and support us and our committee.
“There will be at least three town criers that have never been to Frome before, so let’s hope the public come out and give them all a wonderful Frome welcome.
“The weekend starts with the usual get-together on the Friday evening at The George for a meal, for those staying over. The festival will commence at 10.40am on Saturday 16th June, when all the criers will parade from the Masonic hall to the market car park.
“Each crier will then do their two cries each, in order of the draw that had already taken place. Their first cry will be telling why you should visit their town and the second cry will be a news item of the first six months of this year. The announcement of the winners should take place at approx. 2.30pm, before they all return to the Masonic hall for a late lunch.
“So please come along at some stage and witness what is now a wonderful day out in Frome.”
