FROME Town FC will officially switch on their new floodlights for the first time this week when they entertain Weymouth on Wednesday evening.
A massive £30,000 fundraising appeal by the club and its supporters and a £29,000 grant from the Premier League has enabled the Robins to replace their existing lighting, originally installed in the 1980s, with state-of-the-art new floodlights.
The new lights will provide a much improved spectacle for evening games for Frome Town FC, Frome Town Ladies and Frome Town Sports and reduce the overspill of light around the ground.
The improvements also mean that the floodlights meet the requirements of the Southern League, where Town currently play, and meet their aspirations for future promotions.
The floodlights will also allow the club to have more flexibility over training and fixture scheduling, especially during winter months.
The project was made possible thanks to a £29,498 grant from the Premier League, through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF), the largest funders of non-league football in the country.
Funded with £6.5million each year from the Premier League, the FSIF is the country’s largest provider of grants towards projects that help improve the comfort and safety of lower league football grounds in both the professional and amateur game. These improvements range from new football stands and turnstiles to floodlighting and improved provision for disabled supporters.
