Frome Ukulele Club (The Frukes) has been spreading their wings, being featured on The Laura Rawlings Show on BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Somerset, before heading off to the Edinburgh Festival, where Laura was joined by fellow BBC presenter Martin Evans, who also featured the Frukes on his local show.
The two presenters followed people from the West Country who were performing at the Edinburgh Festival and having been to see The Frukes performing at The Cornerhouse during the Frome Festival, Laura followed them to Edinburgh and recorded them for her afternoon show.
The Frukes appeared at the Fringe last year for the first time, and this year were firm favourites in St Andrew’s Square where their mid-afternoon set attracted good crowds, keen to join in with their favourite tunes. Other commitments by the club members meant that The Frukes could only perform for four days, but the experience was enjoyed by all 15 members and the large audiences alike.
The Frukes can be found most Thursday evenings at The Cornerhouse in Frome and have shows to perform in September at Woolley Festival (Friday 5th) and Melksham River Festival (Saturday 6th). Details on Facebook: Frome Ukulele Club.
