Frome Voices is looking forward to welcoming a group of 13 German singers from Frome’s twin town of Murrhardt, who will be travelling here to join in a performance of Brahms’ powerful and moving ‘German Requiem’.
The concert will be at the Cheese and Grain on Sunday 18th March at 7.30pm and will include music sung in English as well as German.
Frome Voices say, “This year, the choir decided to mark the centenary of the end of the first world war, and to celebrate our close links with our European twin towns.
“Singers in Murrhardt responded with enthusiasm and they have been practising hard – as has the choir here in Frome, under the inspiring baton of Alan Burgess, the choir’s musical director. The German group will arrive on the 15th March, in time for final rehearsals and the performance. They have paid their own travel costs and will be accommodated by host families here. Frome Town Council will be arranging an official welcome reception and Frome Voices is grateful for a grant from the Mayor’s Fund for some additional funding towards the project.”
Alan Burgess said, “This is the choir’s most challenging and ambitious concert to date. We are thrilled that our friends in Murrhardt are joining us in this venture, and we’re looking forward to welcoming a packed audience to listen to a glorious performance of this great work.”
Frome Voices is a well-established community choir that presents one large-scale musical work each year. The choir is known for the high standard of its performances and this year it has attracted its largest-ever numbers. There will be almost 150 singers, as well as professional instrumentalists and soloists. A sound to raise the roof of the Cheese and Grain!
