FROME woman, Wendy Jones, is joining 140 others to raise money for Macmillan, by cycling from London to Paris in 4 days, covering 300 miles.
Wendy hopes to raise £2,000 and has currently raised just over £1,200 by cake raffles and sponsorship.
Wendy said, “I decided to take on this challenge in memory of my aunt, Carol Wase. Macmillan provided outstanding care to both my aunt and family – meaning she could stay at home throughout her illness. This is my way of saying thank you to all that provided such loving care.
“This is the first time I have taken on a cycling challenge and didn’t even own a road bike at the time of signing up. I have been training through the winter on an indoor trainer, but now the weather is warming up I have been cycling to work in Bath.”
Wendy has teamed up with another cyclist, Eleanor White, to raise funds by cycling throughout the day on Saturday 11th May on trainers in Frome town centre. Wendy explained, “Ellie has her challenge on 19th June for Dorothy House. We have teamed up as both charities work side by side giving palliative care.
“We would like to thank Live2Ride for their support, advice and borrowing of equipment to make this charity event possible and Kay Chapman for helping organizing the event.”
