A Woman from Frome has completed a run in memory of two sisters, raising funds for a foundation set up in their honour.
Lily Breese completed the Cardiff 10 km for The Maddie and Libby North Foundation, which aims to enhance educational and recreational opportunities for children up to the age of 11 in the community.
The foundation was set up in memory of sisters Maddie and Libby North, who died in a collision on the Frome bypass in 2023.
Lily was friends with Maddie from university and knew Libby through a mutual friend. She said, “I wanted to do something positive in their memory and fundraising for a cause that reflects the values they both held felt like a fitting way to remember them.”
Before the collision, Maddie was due to graduate from university and become a primary school teacher, while Libby was working as a nursery nurse. They both had a passion for working with children and making a difference in young people’s lives.
Lily said, “I am currently in year two of my doctorate, where I’m training to become an educational psychologist. This makes the foundation’s work very closely aligned with my own career and personal values. Being able to raise money for children and young people in the community that I grew up in, while doing something in memory of Maddie and Libby, made the challenge particularly meaningful.”
Lily has raised £763 so far through the challenge and achieved a personal best, finishing the 10 km in one hour and 14 minutes.
She said, “I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated so far. I’ve decided to keep the fundraising page open following the run, with the hope of raising a little more for the foundation in Maddie and Libby’s memory.”
