FROME’S Climate Action Group will be meeting for the second time this year, on Wednesday 11th May.
The community-based group meets quarterly to develop, influence and implement projects that help to reduce Frome’s carbon footprint and help to restore biodiversity. The next meeting will focus on biodiversity in Frome’s green spaces and will involve updates from some of Frome’s various organisations that work hard to protect them.
At the group’s first meeting in January, 50 people came together to share ideas and widen the conversation on how to steer Frome to a carbon neutral 2030. These ideas have been fed back into the town council’s Climate Action Plan and will make a big difference to Frome’s resilience work.
Frome Town Council’s resilience manager, Nikki Brain said, “I’m always inspired by the many community groups in Frome who work so hard to protect, preserve and grow our green and blue spaces. Individually they make a big difference, but when they come together, their impact is multiplied. It is exciting that the Climate Action Group is helping identify the gaps and bringing in new people to help.”
The town council continues, “The meeting will also see attendees gather in their subgroups for the first time. These subgroups will meet more frequently than the wider group overall, and focus on more specific areas including energy, transport, zero waste and plastic free and biodiversity, so do come along and be part of the solution and identify an area you can really get behind.
“Part of this meeting will be held outdoors to enjoy the spring air and sun. Bring something warm to wear and a camping chair if you need it!”
