Frome homes open doors to energy-saving ideas

Residents will be able to explore ways to make their homes warmer, healthier and cheaper to run at Frome’s first Green Open Homes event this month.

Taking place on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th November, the event will give people the chance to visit local properties and see energy-saving improvements at different stages, from draught-proofing and improved ventilation to insulation, solar panels and air source heat pumps.

Visitors will be able to see how the measures work in practice and find out which options might suit their own homes.

Cllr Sara Butler said, “Many people know they would like to improve their home’s energy efficiency, but it can be difficult to know what measures are right for their property or where to begin. Green Open Homes gives residents the chance to explore different options, learn from real-life experiences and access reliable advice to help them make informed decisions.”

The event will also highlight support available through Frome Town Council’s Healthy Homes programme.

The service offers free advice from trained Energy Champions, home visits and Home Energy Plans for eligible households. It can also help residents with damp, condensation and mould, reducing energy costs and debt, accessing grants and funding, and making improvements such as insulation, ventilation, solar technologies and low-carbon heating.

The event is open to anyone considering major improvements or smaller changes to their home.
