Frome’s Big Christmas Get-Together and Fair Frome are teaming up to support a free community lunch on Christmas Day.
They will be collecting donations at The Frome Independent market on Sunday 6th December between 10am and 3pm and need your support.
Christmas can be a difficult time of year for all sorts of reasons and both organisations recognise the pressure this can bring to people’s lives.
Over the last four years the Christmas Day event has moved away from being exclusively for those who can’t afford a good day or are particularly isolated, to a more inclusive community celebration for everyone.
Frome Town Football Club is once again hosting a full, traditional Christmas lunch, complete with transport, gifts and entertainment. The event is completely free but guests should book to ensure their place. Anyone who is on their own on Christmas Day and would like company will be welcomed – all ages, backgrounds and families too.
It will be a chance to meet up with old friends and make new friends creating bonds in the community that last well beyond the single day. Guest forms are also available from the market stall or Frome Library.
Fair Frome is an independent charity that champions greater financial, educational, social and health equality for people living in the town and nearby villages.
They work with those people most in need of help and one of the key parts of their outreach work is regular Community Lunches through the year around the town designed to bring communities together and reduce isolation whilst offering practical support and advice – Frome’s Big Christmas Get-Together is a natural partner for this time of year.
Free activities from the joint community stall outside Frome Library include a Wishing Tree, Children’s fun activities and a festive Gift Wrapping service. You can also donate Christmas food items to the stall, such as children’s selection boxes, biscuits, cakes and crackers. These will provide festive treats for the Food Bank gift bags at Christmas.
Fair Frome is also asking for people to donate their Winter Fuel Allowance if you do not feel you need this additional support – forms will be available to complete on the stall. Volunteers will be collecting donations around the town centre and on the free shuttle buses, so please look out for them and give generously.
Look out for their magical Dragon Puppets who will entertain through the day and even have special powers to discover your secret Star Wars Names.
