FROME and the surrounding villages was awash with red, white and blue last weekend as people celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in style.
To mark the historic occasion celebrations were held in local streets, schools, parish parks and village halls all across the town. The annual Cheap Street Fun Day was the highlight of Frome’s jubilee celebrations with live music, children’s performers and a paper boat flotilla casting off down the leat, which runs through the centre of Cheap Street, on Sunday the 3rd of June.
Each year the annual Fun Day is organised by Café la Strada, which celebrates its 10th year anniversary this month. Manager Lucy Kelly said, “It was a fantastic turn out this year. The rain came in for a while, but it didn’t stop people turning out. At one point, a team of men dressed as mountaineers turned up and crawled their way up Cheap Street with pick axes in hand. It was definitely a surprise to us, but that’s what makes the event so great, anything can happen!”
Live music was put on by Eddie Martin, Killing No Murder, Harriet Eldar, Robert Bowden and The Pigeons with delicious food served from the cafés and delis. A circus workshop was put on as well as a Punch and Judy show to entertain children.
