Frome’s new Rotaract club, which provides an opportunity for young adults aged 18 to 38 in and around Frome to connect, socialise, volunteer, and develop new skills had a great turnout at its first meeting earlier in the month.
Club leader, Josie Shillabeer, says she was thrilled by the turnout and enthusiasm of those who have attended the club so far. “Everyone has different reasons for wanting to join the club; including the opportunity to make new friends, volunteer for local causes, learn new skills, network and have fun with other young adults,” she explains.
Rotaract is sponsored by Rotary, a club that has successfully brought together like-minded people both in Frome and all around the world with the aim of connecting, socialising, and giving back to those more in need.
Frome Rotaract has a lot of social events planned throughout the year including quiz nights, a tour of the local museum, guest speakers, nature walks as well as trying out different sports and skills, such as volleyball and meditation.
As well as socialising, Frome Rotaract will focus on donating their time and volunteering for a range of causes both locally and internationally. This will include supporting the Frome Carnival and Santa float, helping local charities, and coming up with exciting and innovative ways to raise money.
“Frome Rotaract Club will always be looking for social opportunities so if you have a skill, talk or activity that you would like to offer for free or low cost be sure to get in touch,” says the club. “We will also be looking for volunteering opportunities so if you have something you think we might be able to help with then get in touch.”
Frome Rotaract meet fortnightly on a Monday evening at 7pm at the George Hotel in the town centre. For more information email Josie at fromerotaract@outlook.com.
