PREHISTORIC tools discovered by a local man on a site in Frome, are now on display at an exhibition in Frome Museum.
The exhibition, titled ‘Shining light on the prehistoric occupation of Frome’, features flint tools that date back an estimated 8,000 years, found by local ‘finder’ Andrew Edwards in a field on Feltham Lane to the south of the town, close to the banks of the River Frome.
Andrew believes that the discovery indicates that the site was an area where prehistoric people made their tools.
Alongside the exhibition, a book of the same name, which acts as a guide to the exhibition, is on sale at the museum, costing £20. All proceeds from the book will go to the Frome Museum.
“This money helps pay for radiocarbon dating and other scientific reports that are necessary in order for us to date our finds,” explains Andrew. “There is also a special edition hardback version of the exhibition guide, which can be purchased from Frome Museum.”
Andrew launched his ‘Finding Frome’ project last year, as a means to share with both tourists and local people aspects of Frome’s long forgotten pre-industrial heritage.
Frome Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 2pm. “There is no charge to see the exhibits that are on show,” said Andrew, “however, a small donation is appreciated.”
