THE community has been enthusiastically supporting Frome’s first Frost Fair, being held at the Cheese and Grain, every day until Christmas Day.
Visitors have enjoyed browsing the independent stalls, sipping festive drinks, enjoying homemade treats, and admiring the regions ‘biggest’ advent calendar, which decorates the façade of the Cheese & Grain with a wash of colours and music.
The Frost Fair was opened on 1st December by Glastonbury festival’s Emily Eavis. Every night in the countdown to Christmas, the public can experience a light symphony projected onto the building, synchronized in time with festive classics from over the years.
Production and marketing manager at the Cheese and Grain, Rob Dhal said, “We are delighted and have been a little taken aback by the high footfall the Frost Fair has received during the opening week. The event has been extremely well supported by the local community and from further afield, with people travelling considerable distances to join the festivities.
“We called the event the Frost Fair but we weren’t quite expecting the weather conditions to match the name so perfectly, but this hasn’t seemed to take away the public’s enthusiasm for the event.
“The region’s biggest advent calendar has proven to be an incredibly popular attraction since the first door was opened by Emily Eavis. It has been really gratifying the amount of feedback and photos of the show we have received from people being blown away by the daily visual light show (shown at 6pm, 6.30pm, 7pm, 7.30pm, 8pm, 8.30pm and 9pm).
Attendees have been treated to Foo Fighters, Oasis, Dave Pearce, Elvis, The Pogues, Wham! and Somerset’s finest sons, The Wurzels. There is, of course many more surprises and treats to come as we countdown to Christmas!”
From the 19th of December until 24th December the venue will also be offering three sessions each night of winter roller discos in the Cheese and Grain hall.
