CHEAP Street record store Raves From the Grave had cause for celebration after the success of their first vinyl appreciation night.
‘Vinyl Appreciation Thursdays’ began on Thursday 12th March with a listening of The Beatles’ Revolver. It was hosted by Guardian writer John Harris.
Organiser Andrew Birch said, “We had between 30-40 people crammed in to the upstairs of the Three Swans. John Harris opened with an introduction, talking for 5-10 minutes about the album and what was happening with the Beatles at the time in 1966.
“We then listened to the mono and stereo editions of the Revolver album, and afterwards had a time of interaction chaired by John where anyone could say which sounded better and why, and talk about details regarding the album.
“At the end John asked if folk had enjoyed the night and if they would be willing to make it more of a regular thing, and a huge roar of ‘yes’ went up, along with suggestions of albums to play in the future!”
The next event in the coming weeks hopes to compare two seminal albums from the Britpop era: Screamadelica by Primal Scream and Stone Roses by the Stone Roses.
