A group in Frome is raising funds to renovate a 35-year-old train in the library to secure it for future generations.
For over three decades the Frome Library book train has delighted visitors in the children’s section. It was donated to the library by Lloyds Bank in 1991 and has not only survived the library fire of 2005 but also thousands of baby boogies and toddler times sessions.
After an eventful life, it is in a much-needed state of repair. In partnership with the Frome Shed, Friends of Frome Library is looking to raise £400 to cover costs of materials, including the purchase of specialist, child-friendly paint and replacement parts.
Chair of Friends of Frome Library, Kerry Meech said, “We are launching this appeal to show it some love and give it a much-needed glow-up.”
“Donations towards our train appeal can be made via our donate page and every donation made includes the opportunity to suggest a name for the train. That’s right, it’s 35 years old and doesn’t have a name, so let’s rectify that.”
Friends of Frome Library are also holding a second-hand book stall outside the facility on Justice Lane on Tuesday 7th July from 10.30am to 2.30pm. All proceeds will go towards the train’s renovation fund.
