FROME locals are banding together to fundraise for a new skatepark by hosting a drum and bass night, alongside a silent auction and an art exhibition in order to raise money to upgrade the current park so everyone can enjoy it.
The music event, ‘Creatures Of Deep Space 3’ will take place on Friday 10th December at 9pm-2.30am at 23 Bath Street – tickets are £5.50 with the event for 18+, last entry at 12.00. There is also an art exhibition at the same place during the day, on both the 9th and 10th of December.
James Davidson from Deepspace says, “So, does Frome really need a new skate park? Yes. The old skate park at Victoria Park is too small, dated and falling apart. It’s in serious need of an upgrade.
“Inclusion is the key here. We need a variety of ramps and rails for higher level skaters but more importantly some smaller ramps for beginners. The beaten down condition of the skate park is tribute to its popularity but with so many people in a relatively small space, the chance of collisions is unnecessarily high. A bigger park with more obstacles is essential.
“Safety is a priority and while we would encourage skaters to wear the relevant protection, we must first look into making a park that is well built from the foundations up to insure it stands the test of time. The money spent on a top-class skate park will ultimately be worth it when, years from now, it’s still in great condition and being enjoyed by the next generation.”
The idea came about after two local skaters, Ed Bucklow and Noah Steeple created the group, Frome Skate Park Project.
Organisers of the charity event and founders of Deep Space Records, James Davidson and Milligan Hickson are hoping the use of their large sound system as well as the donated work by talented local artists will be enough to raise a significant amount of money to vastly improve the current skatepark.
James continued, “The real action kicks off Friday night when at 9pm Deep Space fire up their 13k sound system, on a transformed dancefloor with some of the most intriguing decor and bewitching lighting you’re likely find. Countless hours have gone into the production of this event to ensure your memories are preserved, as vividly as the night itself. Drum and Bass not your thing? That’s cool, just drop by Thursday or Friday daytime for the exhibition (it’s free to view).”
“Some high rollers of the local art scene are backing this project with the likes of Boswell, Iksentrik and Tommy Taf all painting and transforming skateboard decks into incredible and shocking works of art.
